The Department of Empirical Educational Research deals with questions of the interplay of the educational system, characteristics of the socio-cultural background as well as educational and training trajectories. This is investigated with reference to the behaviour, attitudes and assessments of pupils and teachers. Existing data is used and own data is collected to test and further develop theoretical models of educational research. We are currently focussing on the following topics, among others Alternative Educational Pathways, Diversity & Digitality, Political Socialisation, Classroom Disruption and Career Orientation.
The DFG-funded project ‘The Development of Deviant Careers in School Interaction Processes’ will start on 1 June 2025. The project will run for three years. The project leaders are Prof. Dr. Claudia Schuchart and Prof. Dr. Doris Bühler-Niederberger.
This study investigates how rule-breaking behaviour among primary school pupils can lead to a deviant school career. Based on an interactionist approach, we analyse in a longitudinal study how teachers and pupils interpret rule violations and whether this results in informal or formal labelling with consequences for the development of deviant or rule-abiding behaviour.
